For the second consecutive year, I had the honor of covering the Kovan Golf Classic, now in it’s 30th year. The event was held at the beautiful Birmingham Country Club.
It always amazes me how much enthusiasm is generated when it comes to raising money for charities, especially those that benefit children, as the Kovan Gold Classic does. And this event certainly lived up to it’s goals.
Listening to Dr Bruce Kovan recount the loss of a child, and very nearly the loss of a second child, was a very emotional moment. I personally know this pain all too well, and I could see the pain and struggle etched across his face.
But like many tragedies, good can rise from it, and in this case it’s an event that raises much needed funds for children who are suffering more than most of us do in our lifetimes.
Special thanks to Dr. Eric Kovan, Dr. Bruce Kovan and the entire committee, Presenting Sponsor Team Rehabilitation, Eagle Sponsor SLI, Hole-in-One Sponsor Lincoln of Troy and all of the generous sponsors, auction donors, golfers and guests who made the day a wonderful success for children in need.
A very big thank you also gos to all of those wonderful people from Variety The Children’s Charity. Michelle Murphy and her team are outstanding!
